Sberbank : Live session with ISS, Steve Wozniak, UNICEF, Interpol – international online cybersecurity training Cyber Polygon 2021 highlights

Centered on the secure development of digital ecosystems, training event consisted of two parallel tracks: an online conference for a wide audience, which was joined by over seven million viewers from 78 countries, and a practical segment for cybersecurity experts, which gathered 200 organizations from 48 countries.

Cyber Polygon opened with a welcome speech by Sberbank CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board Herman Gref. Then, the 7 mn+ audience was welcomed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab. Professor Schwab said that the number of cybercrime threats was rising and acknowledged that technological development was key in countering the new threats.

Ecosystems as a new way of global integration was the first session. Herman Gref and Steve Wozniak spoke about the history of Apple's development and the challenges and risks ecosystems face today. They also addressed the role of technology and education in the evolution of the digital world.

The second discussion, called Digital state of tomorrow - what will it be? was moderated by Ryan Chilcote, Independent Global Affairs and Economics Broadcaster, Bloomberg TV and CNN alumnus, who talked to Roger Halbheer, Microsoft's Chief Security Advisor, and Igor Lyapunov, Vice President for Information Security, Rostelecom. They spoke of how states change through technological progress, what role business plays in it, and what measures are being taken to protect citizens around the world.

The next session on the agenda was called New world - new currency. How to make the financial system resilient as digital currencies proliferate? Moderator Matthew Blake, World Economic Forum Head of Financial and Monetary System Initiatives, talks to Mark Barnett, President of Mastercard Europe, Matthew Dill, Global Head of Strategic Partnerships and Ventures and Senior Vice President at Visa, and Alexey Zabotkin, Deputy Governor with Bank of Russia, about the prospects and risks of digital currencies, some ongoing projects, and the impact of new means of payment on the traditional financial system.

During the direct contact with the ISS, Deputy Chairman of the Sberbank Executive Board Stanislav Kuznetsov talked to Oleg Novitskiy, Hero of the Russian Federation, ROSCOSMOS Test Cosmonaut, and Pyotr Dubrov, ROSCOSMOS Test Cosmonaut. The astronauts spoke about how technology helps them in their ISS work, how international space cooperation evolves, and how even astronauts encounter online scam attempts.

The next session was called Combating ransomware - developing an international response. It was joined by Craig Jones, INTERPOL Cybercrime Director, Michael Daniel, President and CEO of Cyber Threat Alliance, and Teresa Walsh, Global Head of Intelligence at FS-ISAC. The speakers discussed why the number of ransomware attacks had risen over the last year, talked about the efforts being taken at the level of governments and individuals, and the steps that need to be taken to reinforce the international collaboration against cybercrime.

The next discussion to follow was Resilient supply chains - protect people by protecting business. Vice President and General Manager of IBM Security Chris McCurdy, Vice President of Products at Check Point Software Technologies Dorit Dor,

Trend Micro COO Kevin Simzer, and Kaspersky CEO Eugene Kaspersky discussed the challenges that supply chains of companies face today, the measures that need to be taken to secure partner networks in their entirety, and why the 'cyberimmunity' principle underlies strong protection.

The discussion was followed by a special address by Jürgen Stock, Secretary General, INTERPOL, who spoke about the role Interpol plays in combating global cybercrime.

Then Peter Maurer, President, International Committee of the Red Cross, talked to Mikhail Vinogradov, Head of the General Department of International Legal Cooperation, General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, about the role of the Red Cross in creating a safe cyber space.

The next discussion of the event addressed the question of how to protect users in the global digital space and to consider the interests of all the parties - countries, businesses and people. Jovan Kurbalija, Founding Director of DiploFoundation, moderated the discussion with the following speakers: Andrey Vorobyov, Director of Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, and Mandy Carver, SVP for Government and Intergovernmental Organization Engagement, ICANN.

Finally, a dialogue on cyberbullying and protecting children from digital threats was held between Stanislav Kuznetsov and Henrietta H. Fore, Executive Director, UNICEF.

For the third year in a row, Cyber Polygon has united top tier speakers from government agencies and major international organizations, cybersecurity and technical experts from across the world. We have talked about the opportunities and risks of technological development, discussed digital currency security, and the future of a digital state. I find it particularly important that we have also addressed the issue of protecting children in cyberspace. Our live stream has been joined by over seven million viewers from 78 countries.
