SberBank has made express fare payments possible in the Kazan metro (Municipal Unitary Enterprise Metroelektrotrans in the city of Kazan) with Express Transit. To this end, all metro turnstiles that are compatible with proximity bank cards have been upgraded.

iPhone users can now pay fares with Apple Pay by simply tapping their smartphones against the turnstiles without Touch ID, Face ID, or passcode. The transaction goes through instantly, even if the phone's battery is low (1-3%). As a result of this, users spend less time paying for their trip and terminal capacity increases. Moving forward, the technology is set to become available in other cities of Russia.

SberBank is pro-actively adopting new technology to modernize fare payments in Russian cities. This is a top priority for us. Sber has made acquiring services available to more than 70,000 vehicles in over 140 cities. Apple Pay-enabled fare payments and express payments will speed this up dramatically, making it more convenient for people. We plan to scale this option up to encompass all our projects.

Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, Sberbank

The solution allows users to pay fares with any Apple Pay-linked card, including with a SberCard, which is convenient for purchases and unlocks great deals. It only takes few seconds to issue a card via the SberBank Online mobile app. You can choose the card for express fare payments by opening iPhone settings and then going to Wallet and Apple Pay - Transport Express Card.
