Press Release PLX Technology's ExpressFabric Wins ECN Magazine's Prestigious IMPACT Award as Top Market Disrupter

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - May 12, 2014 -- PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT), the global leader in PCI Express® (PCIe®) silicon and software connectivity solutions enabling emerging data center architectures, today announced that its ExpressFabric® technology won ECN Magazine's IMPACT award in the Market Disruptor category.  Held May 6 in Las Vegas, the IMPACT Awards recognized outstanding achievements and top products in electronics design engineering.

More than 15 design engineering judges cited how ExpressFabric empowers designers with far greater system-architecture options as the market-disrupting qualities that won the IMPACT award.

"PLX Technology's ExpressFabric means system designers for data centers no longer have to choose 'either-or' between Ethernet and InfiniBand and their associated tradeoffs," said Chris Warner, executive editor, ECN Magazine.  "They can now mix different data types on a single pathway and get the performance they need to keep up with today's unprecedented data demands."

"As one of the premier names in electronics publishing, ECN consistently recognizes emerging technologies with the promise of positively impacting markets, then brings them to the attention of a broad industry readership," said Krishna Mallampati, PLX® senior marketing director for PCIe switch products.  "We're therefore honored that this panel of judges with expertise in design engineering, noting ExpressFabric's market-disrupting potential, have selected the technology to receive this prestigious IMPACT Market Disrupter award."

PLX has extended the reach of PCIe for use as a fabric in data center and cloud computing through its ExpressFabric initiative.  The PCIe interconnect is already native and dominant inside systems, and ExpressFabric enables a PCIe-based box-to-box fabric within a rack that eliminates the need for expensive, power-hungry bridging devices such as adapter cards which translate PCIe to InfiniBand, Ethernet or Fibre Channel.  ExpressFabric technology is initially targeted at small- to medium-sized cloud clusters - with up to 1,000 nodes and eight racks - where the majority of the high-volume innovations are taking place.
