At POSCO (CEO Jeong-Woo Choi), there are many hidden volunteer masters. These masters are POSCO employees and their families who have been participating in volunteer activities for those in need.
On November 13, POSCO CEO Jeong-Woo Choi invited an employee and family members who have achieved more than 10,000 hours of volunteer work, and also other employees who have engaged in more than 3,000 hours of volunteer work to acknowledge and encourage them for their dedication.
At the event, CEO Choi awarded a certification plaque and a momento to POSCO employees and their family members who have set an example of service to local communities.
10,000 hours of volunteer work may take about seven years, supposing that people volunteer for four hours every single day.
Up to date, at POSCO, there is one employee and three spouses of employees who have achieved over 10,000 hours of volunteer work. Also, there are three POSCO families who have each accomplished 10,000 hours in total - the hours of each family member summed up.
POSCO has a unique culture of participating in volunteer work and sharing activities. As a result, the average volunteer hours of all employees reached 26.9 hours last year. So, the families of the employees take this culture of volunteering for granted.
CEO Choi said, 'The POSCO Charter of Corporate Citizenship states: 'we actively participate in philanthropy as part of our commitment to sharing with our neighbors and the society,' but our employees and families here today have been participating in corporate citizenship activities, even before it was announced as POSCO's management philosophy.' He also added, 'I hope that today's event will present them with a sense of pride and reward for their dedication in volunteering for a long time.'
Soon-Hee Park, the spouse of a POSCO employee, received a certification plaque commemorating 10,000 hours of volunteer service. Park said, 'Volunteer work makes our daily lives much more beautiful.'
Soon-Hee Park started participating in volunteer activities in 2007 and has been a part of various volunteer work for the past 13 years. Recently, she has also taken part in quarantine activities to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, after encouraging these outstanding volunteers, POSCO CEO Jeong-Woo Choi attended the unveiling ceremony of media art of POSCO Charter of Corporate Citizenship, which embodies the commitment of POSCO to practice Corporate Citizenship, at POSCO HQ in Pohang.
Previously, the first artwork by world-renowned media artist Lee-Nam Lee titled, 'Corporate Citizenship, the Light for Coexistence,' was unveiled at the POSCO Center in Seoul on July 28. The second artwork embodies the commitment and pledge of the POSCO people to the company's management philosophy, Corporate Citizenship.
