Posco International : Group to Utilize Eco-Friendly Steel Preparing Incheon Int'l Airport for 100 Mil. Visitors

- POSCO INTERNATIONAL to supply 23,000 tons of steel for Incheon Int'l Airport's stage 4 expansion

- 22-meter steel curtain wall using PosMAC, POSCO's high corrosion resistant steel plate, will be the highest in Korea

- Win-win business model to be expanded and continued through POSCO's eco-friendly steel and technological cooperation with the hidden champions

POSCO INTERNATIONAL will supply Incheon International Airport Corporation with steel curtain wall and roof materials using eco-friendly materials produced by POSCO and POSCO STEELEON for the expansion of Incheon Int'l Airport Terminal 2.

23,000 tons will be supplied for this expansion by 2024, when the stage 4 construction of Incheon Int'l Airport - the expansion of Terminal 2 - is finished.

The contract order holds significance as it was accomplished through collaboration of POSCO Group and a hidden champion with POSCO's INNOVILT certification for external panel processing technology.

POSCO issues INNOVILT certification for products capable of leading sustainable future construction among customers' products composed 100% of POSCO steel through assessing the products' technology and marketability.

Serving as the curtain without being under the load of the building, the curtain wall is mainly made of aluminum, steel, etc. Steel is highly insulating and fire resistant compared to other materials such as aluminum and is an eco-friendly material low in carbon emission and recyclable.

POSCO INNOVILT-certified steel curtain walls are popular in construction sites due to their outstanding strength and structural performance, room for extensive view and sense of openness, and potential for various designs. In particular, the steel curtain wall used in this case is a free-form product highest in Korea at 22 meters.

POSCO INTERNATIONAL invented the method of constructing curtain walls not through existing welding method but through manufacturing them in modular units at factories and constructing them on site with fastening bolts, anticipating that the method will be a great help to secure on-site safety as well as to shorten the construction periods.

In addition, high-performance materials produced by POSCO Group companies, such as high corrosion resistant PosMAC from POSCO and aluminum fluorine coated steel plates from POSCO STEELEON, will be used on the 80,000 square meter roof of the passenger terminal.

A POSCO INTERNATIONAL official explained, "We are now able to provide an eco-friendly smart solution suitable for a 'smart airport, environment-friendly airport, and airport with art,' the goal of Incheon Int'l Airport. Combining the excellence of POSCO products with the technological capabilities of hidden champions, we will prepare Incheon Int'l Airport, Korea's best-known airport, for 100 million visitors in the future."

Incheon Int'l Airport is preparing to take a leap into becoming a landmark airport with the third highest passenger traffic and capabilities to accommodate 100 million visitors by 2024 when the stage 4 construction is finished.

Meanwhile, POSCO INTERNATIONAL will also provide PosMAC nonflammable color steel plates to INSPIRE Entertainment Resort under construction in Yeongjongdo Island and steel curtain walls and free-form 3D composite panels to "Moms' Free Zone" to be built in DaeSang Park at Changwon, in additional to Incheon Int'l Airport.
