Herna Verhagen, PostNL CEO, is proud of this recognition in the DJSI : 'PostNL is at the heart of society and wants to be the most sustainable player in logistics service provision. As the largest mail and parcel company in the Benelux, we are highly aware of the impact that we have and can have on the world. Every day, we work towards making our processes and services more sustainable, both individually and together with our partners. I am proud of the achievements that we have recently made across various areas of our company.' The DJSI assesses companies on their employment practices, environmental impact and social commitment. PostNL performs well in all of these aspects.

Employer and client

PostNL strives to be a good employer and client for everyone who works with us and for us. It is important that people enjoy working for PostNL, feel responsible for the joint results and therefore contribute to the success of our company. The company encourages employees to continue their personal development, thereby establishing their long-term employability. PostNL promotes the appointment and advancement of ambitious women, men and multicultural talent, actively working towards the acceptance of the LGBT target population and offering work to people who are distanced from the labour market.

Environment

PostNL opts for logistics solutions with the least possible impact on the environment. By 2025, PostNL wants to make deliveries emission-free in 25 city centres in the 'last mile'. In 2018, Leeuwaarden is the first city centre where both mail and parcels are delivered with electric vehicles, by bicycle and on foot. The company uses green gas vehicles and electric vehicles such as carrier bikes on a large scale in city centres. PostNL is working towards making buildings sustainable. The new parcel sorting centre in Apeldoorn, which opened its doors in August 2018, has the highest possible BREEAM certification: Outstanding. Gas is also no longer used, and there have been investments in sustainable materials and installations including heat recovery ventilation, LED lighting and solar panels.

Society

PostNL supports various organisations with social sponsoring and organisations that work to limit environmental impact. Employees and resources are deployed for this purpose. This means that, through the Nationaal Ouderenfonds, elderly people who are lonely receive a Christmas card. For Stichting Jarige Job, PostNL delivers birthday packages so that children from disadvantaged families can celebrate their birthday. Over the past year, as a partner of the Missing Chapter Foundation, together with the Kids Council (Raad van Kinderen), PostNL has been looking into ways of reducing the amount of air in packaging. The Kids Council is an initiative of the Missing Chapter Foundation and Unicef Nederland.
