• The Group reaffirms its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
  • The initiative promotes individual measures aimed at improving the present and future of people and the planet.

September 25 is the sixth anniversary of the historic consensus reached at the United Nations General Assembly. Acting in unison, the 193 member states approved the 2030 Agenda and its 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) - aimed at bringing about a fairer and more sustainable world. The initiative envisaged a series of measures to end poverty and inequality and address urgent challenges such as the fight against climate change. PRISA was quick to express its commitment to this initiative and now, six years later, with the goal of encouraging citizens to participate individually to reach these common goals, the group is launching the campaign Leave a good mark.

All actions add up, no matter how small each may be. That's the spirit of the initiative Leave a good mark which seeks to appeal to the individual responsibility of each and every one of us and encourage us to be mindful of the legacy that we pass on to future generations. Each of us might leave a good mark, for example, by using products that respect the environment, by helping small businesses, by buying local products or supporting sustainable spaces. People leaving a good mark might include the farmer who chooses not to use pesticides, the groups of young people who get together to rid our beaches of plastic, or the volunteers who, in their free time, teach in the neediest communities.

The campaign, which can be followed on the website www.dejabuenahuella.com, is being rolled out across all the Group's media simultaneously and represents yet another step forward in the Group's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially the five priority goals where PRISA has the greatest impact: SDG 4, Quality education; SDG 5, Gender equality; SDG 8, Decent work and economic growth; SDG 13, Climate Action; and SDG 16, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

The initiative seeks to invite the general public to engage with the UN goals at an individual and tangible level in a range of different areas. And the website will be featuring stories of personal and collective projects that contribute to building a more just and sustainable society.

PRISA's commitment to sustainability

The chief social responsibility of any media group is to defend and champion the right to news and information with the utmost honesty and rigor. PRISA is no exception and is committed to the development of democratic societies. The group works actively to promote the sustainable development goals through its content and its range of media outlets such as EL PAÍS, Cadena SER, LOS40, Caracol Radio and ADN. Together they seek to promote the goals of the 2030 Agenda with content and coverage on poverty, global health, migration, the economy, social rights and the latest technological advances. Meanwhile, Santillana Latin America promotes the SDGs among the educational community.

In 2008, PRISA joined the UN Global Compact, the world's largest sustainability initiative. Since 2013 the group has been a member of the Spanish Global Compact Network. And, since the ratification of the 2030 Agenda in 2015, the company has also worked to align corporate management with the Sustainable Development Goals, all while seeking out new business opportunities, improving stakeholder relations and fostering innovation.
