This approach is one we are currently applying in the recently launched CULT project in Antwerp. The acronym stands for Collaborative Urban Logistics & Transport, and that's exactly what it is: a plug-in platform that easily allows new partners to join the joint delivery model. We have the support of the city of Antwerp as well, which means that we can help each other: the council can help us find the best mobility solutions, while we can actively help reduce congestion and pollution in the centre. Win-win.

There is plenty of enthusiasm for this type of collaboration, exemplified by the fact that we launched with major names like Danone, Delhaize, Jacobs Douwe Egberts, Pro-Duo, Telenet and Torfs. Yes, you read that right: we are working with Telenet, our major competitor, to realise this project. There are plenty of opportunities for rivalry in other realms; we believe that our city streets are not the right arena for it. If we can achieve a more sustainable delivery model by working together, then we should.

What do I want you to take away from this post? The most important message is perhaps this: if you see an opportunity to create a sustainable improvement, just do it. Talk to your colleagues. Set up a trial project. Give it a go. There is nothing to lose, and so much to gain - for businesses, cities, and citizens.
