Public Joint Stock Territorial Generating No 1 : Gazprom enhances stability of power supply in southwest Saint Petersburg

Today in Saint Petersburg Avtovskaya CHPP of TGС-1 PJSC (part of Gazprom Energoholding Group) launched modernized turbine unit No. 7.

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Alexander Beglov, Governor of Saint Petersburg, took part in the event over video conference calls.

Avtovskaya CHPP, operating since 1956, is one of the most important energy sources in the southwest of Saint Petersburg. It provides electric and thermal energy to residents of the Admiralteysky, Moskovsky, Kirovsky and Krasnoselsky districts, 236 medical, children's, educational and cultural institutions, including the National Library of Russia, as well as metro and railway infrastructure facilities.

The modernization increased reliability of heat and power supply to consumers. As part of the process, the main technological equipment of turbine unit No. 7, auxiliary equipment and engineering systems were replaced. Notably, a new generator equipped with an air-cooling system was installed, as well as a new turbine with a modern control system. All equipment is made in Russia. The capacity of the turbine unit was increased from 97 to 116.4 MW, the heat load - from 174 to 188.4 Gcal/h.

Digital technologies were used in the project to create the most accurate 3D model of the modernized equipment. Construction control in a digital environment enabled construction without suspending production, the plant continued to supply energy to consumers throughout renovation.

The modernization of turbine unit No. 7 is the first stage of renovation of Avtovskaya CHPP. The second stage will include modernization of turbine unit No. 6 and renovation of utility infrastructure.

In 2019 Gazprom Energoholding completed the large-scale investment program to create new capacities under Capacity Supply Agreements (CSA). 36 projects to construct and modernize generating facilities with the total capacity of approximately 9 GW were implemented in total.

As part of CMPCS, the new investment cycle of modernization of power industry equipment, Gazprom Energoholding is planning to modernize facilities with a total capacity of over 3 GW in 2022-2027. This includes comprehensive renovation of electric and heat generating facilities of Moscow and Saint Petersburg and construction of two steam and gas power units at the Novocherkassk SDPP.

Modernization of turbine unit No. 7 of Avtovskaya CHPP became the first project in Russia implemented as part of the new state energy program, Competitive Modernization Project Capacity Selection (CMPCS) for 2022-2024.
