Rosseti FGC UES raises connection power to 540 MW for one of its biggest consumers, Cherepovets Steel Mill

03/16/2021

Rosseti FGC UES has increased by 26 MW, up to 540.7 MW, the power of connection to the Unified National Power Grid for the Cherepovets Steel Mill. The growth of the power delivery volumes is associated with the construction of the new blast furnace named Cherepovchanka. This unit, with design capacity over 3 mn tons of iron annually, is one of the biggest in Russia and Europe.

The enterprise is fed from two mainline grid facilities: Cherepovetskaya 500 kV substation and 220 kV distribution point RPP-2. As part of the technological connection project, power engineers of Rosseti FGC UES performed a set of adjustment work on relay protection devices and emergency automatics.

The Cherepovetskaya 500 kV substation with 1002 MVA capacity is the main power supplier in the Vologda region. Beside the Severstal plant, it supplies power to the production facilities of PhosAgro Group, one of the world's leading producers of phosphate-based fertilizers.

The RPP-2 220 kV distribution point was initially built for the needs of the Cherepovets Steel Mill. The power facility is equipped with digital communication and modern automation means. In 2020, it became one of the first power supply centers in the Vologda region to be converted to remote control.
