Rosseti FGC UES to supply electricity to vast gold deposit in northern Krasnoyarsk Territory

03/29/2022

Rosseti FGC UES (FGC UES PJSC) has begun implementing an external power supply scheme for the Veduga gold mine. It is being developed by Amikan (part of Polymetal). Rosseti FGC UES will provide 15,2 MW of power output.

To connect the consumer to the main grid, a tie-in will be made to the existing 220 kV Razdolinskaya-Taiga transmission line, which participates in the output of Boguchanskaya HPP, one of the largest and most advanced hydroelectric power plants in Russia. Four new supports will be installed as part of the incoming lines construction.

Besides, power engineers are modernizing four existing power centers: 220 kV Razdolinskaya, Taiga, Abalakovskaya, and Priangarskaya. The substations will be equipped with microprocessor-based devices of Russian origin: equipment overload limiters and state-of-the-art alarm and command transmission systems. This will ensure high reliability of the power supply circuit.

The total cost of work will be 216 mn rubles.

The Veduga deposit with reserves of 31.9 mn tonnes of ore at an average grade of 3.9 g/t and a total gold volume of 4 mn ounces is located 520 km north of Krasnoyarsk. The mining plan calls for open-pit operations as well as underground mining using electric equipment, which will reduce the environmental impact.

"Hooking up to the grid is an important step in forming an efficient power supply system for the field, which will also make a significant contribution to achieving the company's carbon emission reduction goals," said Alexei Sharabarin, Managing Director of Amikan Mining LLC.

The development of the field is part of the Yenisei Siberia comprehensive project, which is intended to stimulate socio-economic development of the macro-region.
