Rosseti FGC UES expands nodal power center in Tula region to deliver electricity to new chemical plant

05/26/2022

New switching equipment has been installed at the 220 kV Yasnopolyanskaya substation that supplies electricity to the Schekinsky district of the Tula Region. This has made a technical connection to the networks of the Shchekinoazot ammonia and urea production complex that is now under construction. The consumer will receive 40 MW of power.

Two new 110 kV feeders have been installed in the switchyard, to which cable lines will be connected from the 110 kV Karbamid consumer substation. Gas-insulated circuit breakers, microprocessor-based protections, and modern telemechanics devices have been applied. All of the equipment is highly reliable and controlled in automated mode. The work costs 177 mn rubles.

Construction of the new Shchekinoazot complex began in the spring of 2021. The project partner is China National Chemical Engineering, with whom an EPC ("turnkey") contract was signed. The expected production capacity will be 525,000 tons of ammonia and 700,000 tons of urea. These are used in the production of fertilizers and polymers. About 400 new jobs will be created.

Lately, the Rosseti Group has implemented several major projects contributing to the development of the Russian chemical industry. In 2018, the 500 kV Tobol high-automated substation was put into operation to supply power to the ZapSibNeftekhim plant that produces polyethylene, polypropylene, and various types of monomers (used in the production of synthetic rubbers and plastics). In 2021, the construction site of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex, an anchor resident of Svobodny priority development area, was provided with electricity.
