What advantage do you have that developers at Adobe, Cisco, Citrix, Microsoft, and Sophos didn't have when they were porting their apps to native Arm on Windows?

The Snapdragon Developer Kitfor Windows.

We previously posted that we've been helping engineers port their Windows applications to run natively on ARM silicon. They've been testing on commercially available Windows laptops with Snapdragon technology from OEMs like Acer, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft and Samsung. And as was also mentioned, the Snapdragon Developer Kit would soon be ready for you to use in testing.

It's ready! You can order it now (currently U.S. sales only) from the Microsoft Store.

Test Windows apps on ARM with the Snapdragon Developer Kit for Windows

The kit is the fruit of our collaboration with Microsoft in blending the ubiquity and enterprise-readiness of Windows with the heterogeneous computing and low power requirements of Snapdragon. It is designed to make it easier for you to run and test the applications you port to ARM32 and ARM64, or partial ports with Windows 11 and ARM64EC.

The kit is built around the Snapdragon® 7c compute platform in a mini-PC form factor. Inside the Snapdragon 7c are the Qualcomm® Kryo™ 468 CPU, the Qualcomm® Adreno™ GPU 618 and the Qualcomm® Hexagon™ DSP 692. The cores support both the desktop and mobile computing capabilities you might expect only in high-end devices -capabilities like AI/machine learning, advanced audio, security and 4K video capture/playback.

Windows on Snapdragon developer resources

With 4GB of LPDDR4 memory and 64GB of eMMC storage, the Snapdragon Developer Kit is designed for native testing and validation of application code on ARM. It ships with Windows 10 and is upgradeable to Windows 11.

To put you on the path to porting your apps, we've collected a set of Windows on Snapdragon developer resources:

  • Native, open-source ARM64 tools
  • Getting Started guide to configuring Visual Studio on the development host
  • Backgrounders from Microsoft on developing and porting to ARM
  • Walkthroughs
  • Tips on debugging and troubleshooting

Plus, Microsoft's App Assure program offers you compatibility assistance to ensure your apps work with the latest versions of their products.

Next step: Purchase your Snapdragon Developer Kit for Windows

The Snapdragon Developer Kit is available now from Microsoft for US$219, a fraction of the price of a complete laptop. And great news, for that price you get to keep it!

Give yourself the inside track on native testing of the Windows apps you port to ARM and start to explore the further optimizations and experiences that can be enabled with Snapdragon compute platform. It's another way we're making it easier for you to start developing apps for Windows devices with Snapdragon technology.
