Quantum Blockchain Technologies said Thursday that it has raised 1 million pounds ($1.2 million) via a discounted share placing and will use the money toward research and development, with a particular focus on its bitcoin mining machine learning algorithms and software product release.

The cryptocurrency technology company said that it will also use the funds for the development of its North America business, among other things, and for provide general working capital.

Quantum has placed 71.4 million new ordinary shares at 1.4 pence each, a 27% discount to its closing price of 1.93 pence on Wednesday.
