BOSTON (AP) _ Rapid7 Inc. (RPD) on Wednesday reported a loss of $28.7 million in its third quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Boston-based company said it had a loss of 49 cents. Earnings, adjusted for stock option expense and amortization costs, came to 14 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 5 cents per share.

The cybersecurity company posted revenue of $175.8 million in the period, which did not meet Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $176.1 million.

For the current quarter ending in December, Rapid7 expects its per-share earnings to range from 17 cents to 20 cents.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $179 million to $181 million for the fiscal fourth quarter.

Rapid7 expects full-year earnings in the range of 17 cents to 20 cents per share, with revenue ranging from $680 million to $682 million.
