Zhuhai, China, Nov. 8, 2022 - Pratt & Whitney today announced that Shenzhen Airlines has selected Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines to power its inaugural fleet of six Airbus A321neo aircraft, which the airline sourced from ICBC Leasing. Shenzhen Airlines has also selected an EngineWise® Comprehensive service agreement for long-term engine maintenance. The airline expects to receive its first GTF-powered A321neo aircraft later this year.
"Shenzhen Airlines is taking a big step forward by adding the larger, longer-range A321neo to its fleet," said Lori Liu, president, Greater China at Pratt & Whitney. "With GTF engines and an EngineWise® agreement, they will get not only the highest fuel efficiency and lowest carbon emissions available for the A321neo, but also low operating costs and more predictable maintenance."
Shenzhen Airlines currently operates 27 GTF-powered A320neo aircraft and is one of 11 Chinese carriers to operate GTF engines. The airline's fleet also includes 41 A320ceo aircraft with International Aero Engine's V2500® engines.
Since entering service in 2016, GTF engines have saved Chinese operators more than 500 million liters of fuel and more than a million metric tons of carbon emissions. GTF-powered aircraft in China have also carried more than 80 million passengers over more than 500,000 flights, accumulating more than two million engine flight hours of experience. More than 230 GTF-powered A320neo family aircraft operate throughout China.
The Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engine is the only geared propulsion system delivering industry-leading sustainability benefits and dependable, world-class operating costs. It offers the greatest fuel efficiency and lowest greenhouse gas emissions for the Airbus A320neo family. GTF-powered aircraft reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 16% to 20%, NOx emissions by up to 50% and noise footprint by up to 75%.* Certified for operation on 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and successfully tested on 100% SAF, the engines are capable of further reductions in carbon emissions, which will help the aviation industry meet its goal of net zero emissions by 2050. The engine's revolutionary geared fan architecture is the foundation for more sustainable aviation technologies in the decades ahead, with advancements like the Pratt & Whitney GTF Advantage™ engine and beyond.
