In FY21, REA's carbon emissions footprint was 6,331 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) - that's roughly the equivalent emissions of 352 average Australian households. And similar to household carbon emissions, our energy consumption makes up a big portion of REA's carbon.

Combined emissions from electricity use in REA offices (1,126 tCO2e) and base building electricity & gas (1,092 tCO2e) make up our largest sources of tCO2e and are 35% of our total emissions. You can take a look at the breakdown of our emissions sources on page 68 of our FY21 Sustainability Report.

Solar power

REA's Church Street, Richmond head office represents 70% of total energy consumption. We have worked with our landlords to explore ways to reduce our consumption and have recently committed to invest in the installation of solar panels for Church Street.

These solar panels will significantly reduce REA's energy consumption. We anticipate solar will decrease our carbon footprint for electricity by 30-40% and make a big contribution to achieving our goal of 42% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.

Carbon neutral organisation

REA remains committed to reducing our impact on the environment and are certified carbon neutral by Climate Active. In 2020 we released our Climate Change Policy and are taking action to reduce.
