S&P Global awards the Silver distinction to our company, which is listed among the five top performing Spanish electricity utilities in the area of social, environmental and corporate governance.
S&P Global has awarded Red Eléctrica Group the "Silver Class" rating in its 2022 Sustainability Yearbook, the worldwide benchmarking yearbook on sustainability, which includes the top performing companies in the area of social, environmental and corporate governance. After assessing more than 7,500 companies belonging to 61 activity industries, the publication this year includes 716 companies, of which only 323 have been awarded any kind of distinction: Gold, Silver, Bronze or Industry Mover.
With a score of 86 points out of 100, Red Eléctrica is among the eight Spanish companies and 89 companies worldwide ranked in the Silver category. Within the electricity sector, it is placed among the five most sustainable companies and among the 10 best companies in the world in this regard.
"Sustainability is a commitment that has been permeating the corporate culture in Red Eléctrica Group for years. It includes goals and specific measures to reduce our emissions and protect biodiversity. We are now placing an emphasis on fighting against inequality in the geographical areas where we are present because no energy transition will be successful if we leave part of our society behind", explains Antonio Calvo Roy, Director of Sustainability at Red Eléctrica Group.
The 2022 Sustainability Yearbook shows how companies are adjusting to a complex and ever-changing context: from the transition to a low-carbon economy to diversity and gender equality in their staff and to the growing awareness that companies play a key role in protecting biodiversity.
Furthermore, S&P Global echoes the main challenges that utilities face, such as the need to decarbonise energy generation, digitisation, the expansion of electric mobility and the integration of renewable energies. In the view of the agency, this requires a flexible management of energy and smart and integrated solutions.
