What science tells us on alcohol consumption*

1. Alcohol reaches your stomach and travels around your body very fast. It will process even faster on an empty stomach. Eating before drinking alcohol delays the passage of alcohol into the blood, because food absorbs a certain amount of alcohol when it arrives in the stomach and thus slows down the assimilation process. If we eat after drinking, the alcohol is already in our circulatory system.

2. Water is key to counteract the dehydration effect that alcohol has. Thus, it is important to drink water before, during and after alcohol consumption. The brain is very sensitive to dehydration. This explains the headaches in the event of excessive alcohol consumption.

3. Take it slow: Drinking slowly will allow your body to process the alcohol over a period of time. Moreover, consumed in excess, alcohol inhibits neuronal functioning, and anaesthetizes it. The capacities of the brain are altered: judgement, discernment, attention, concentration, but also motor coordination, balance, orientation in space, speech…

R.E.S.P.E.C.T : our ritual for responsible consumption

These scientific principles guide our responsible consumption ritual: R.E.S.P.E.C.T. As one of the world leaders in exceptional spirits, we are very aware of our responsibility in the matter. Therefore, we created the R.E.S.P.E.C.T ritual, that we will now widely share externally after its internal launch last year. Each letter of our ritual stands for a key action or behavior to keep in mind in order to appreciate our spirits and champagne responsibly - which the best possible way to taste Exception, isn't it? We hope it inspires you to take a stand for responsible consumption.

Each of the R.E.S.P.E.C.T letters stand for an action of this ritual:

R for READY: « get Ready, by drinking water »
E for EAT: « Eat before and during the tasting"
S for SIP: « Smell and Sip Slowly»
P for PAUSE: « Pause by drinking water before a second glass of alcohol"
E for ENJOY: « Enjoy responsibly: check your limits with your favorite Drink Control App"
C for CAPTAIN: « be the Captain by making sure your friends are celebrating responsibly too!"
T for TIME: « Take your Time »

Respect our spirits, respect our creators, respect yourself!
