The Renault Arkana has lived up to its 'hybrid by nature' promise after owner feedback saw it win the Best Hybrid category at the Auto Trader Awards 2022.

Auto Trader's New Car Award 2022 winners were determined by over 156,000 UK car owners, with drivers asked to rate their cars across 16 different criteria, spanning reliability and performance to appearance and running costs. The Arkana, which was designed as a hybrid from the outset, took the win after impressing owners with its contemporary looks that fuse coupe style with the robustness of an SUV, refinement and modern features.

Erin Baker, Auto Trader's Editorial Director, said: 'When it comes to the best hybrid car, power, reliability, safety and comfort were factors that consumers valued the most. The Renault Arkana brings all of these, as well as some elegant styling.

'When speaking about the French coupe-SUV, owners told us that it's a very smart, modern, comfortable car. They love it.'

Baker added: 'The Auto Trader New Car Awards recognise the brands and cars that are doing it right in the eyes of those whose opinions matter most: consumers. They prove how manufacturers are taking consumers' needs into consideration and innovating to bring a great and wide choice to market. Renault, and all of this year's winners, are incredibly well-deserving.'

Now in their sixth year, the Auto Trader New Car Awards are a part of Auto Trader, the UK's largest automotive marketplace, which attracts an average of 69 million cross platform visits a month. Auto Trader is also the UK's most influential marketplace for new car purchases, with 61 per cent of consumers identifying it as the best place to search for their next new car.

Originally established in 1977, Auto Trader has been the trusted go-to destination for car buyers for more than 40 years.

On accepting the award, Guillaume Sicard, Country Head UK & Managing Director Renault Brand UK, said: 'We are exceptionally pleased to have won this accolade for the UK's best hybrid, especially as it has been awarded based on feedback from existing Renault Arkana owners. The hybrid sector is growing at an incredible pace and it's very rewarding to see that our increasing focus on electrification is proving a hit with car buyers, with the Arkana already one of the top 10 best-selling hybrid SUVs in the UK.'

Launched in 2021, the Renault Arkana is Renault's first purpose-built hybrid car and the first Renault SUV with coupe styling. Renault finely honed the Arkana's design using its experience of developing and manufacturing award-winning electrified vehicles for over a decade, while the advanced drivetrain also benefits from technical innovations that originated in Formula 1.

Every Arkana sold in the UK features an electrified powertrain: an advanced E-Tech hybrid - accounting for 80% of Arkana sales - and the TCe 140 mild-hybrid. Both are twinned to fully automatic transmission, with the Arkana E-Tech hybrid producing 145hp, returning up to 58.9mpg and emitting as little as 109g/km.

The standard specification includes such technological advancements as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, with all versions also benefiting from the Active Emergency Braking System, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist. The Arkana's sleek exterior hides a practical interior with up to 513 litres of boot space and generous rear seat space.

The Arkana is priced from GBP26,395 OTR.
