PHOENIX (AP) _ Republic Services Inc. (RSG) on Thursday reported first-quarter net income of $352 million.

On a per-share basis, the Phoenix-based company said it had net income of $1.11. Earnings, adjusted for restructuring costs and costs related to mergers and acquisitions, came to $1.14 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.05 per share.

The waste management company posted revenue of $2.97 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.9 billion.
