Rio Tinto has suspended activity at the port site of its Simandou iron-ore project in Morebaya, Guinea, following the death of a worker.

An employee from a contracting company died following an incident Saturday at the SimFer port site on the project.

Rio Tinto, the world's second-biggest miner by value, said it is working with its partners and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.

First production from Simandou is scheduled for next year.
