Rio Tinto has announced the death of an employee working for a subcontractor following an incident at the SimFer port, part of the Simandou project in Guinea.

Jakob Stausholm, Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto, expressed his condolences to the victim's family and said that operations at the site had been suspended pending a thorough investigation in collaboration with the authorities.

He also reiterated that the Group was committed to maintaining high standards of health and safety, and that the Employee Assistance Program was available 'for any support required'.
