Do you want to launch a giant aircraft into the sky, help supersonic jets take off, or power a fighter jet from the decks of the biggest ships across the globe? Then this might just be the challenge for you.

We're on the lookout for talented young designers to enter our exciting competition to design the engine of the future.

Every single one of our Rolls-Royce products brings together, science, maths and technology - combined with a whole lot of engineering and creativity and who better to come up with ideas for the future than the bright young minds of today.

We want you to design an engine that will help power aircraft of the future. What will it look like, how will it fly, how are you going to make your engine design stand out?

Here are some considerations to help you with your design ideas.

  • What materials will your engine be made of?
  • What types of fuel if any will your engine run on? Is the power safe, clean and sustainable?
  • What are the dimensions of your engine?
  • What to do

Download the pdf worksheet, alternatively design your engine on a computer or a piece of paper and email a photo of your artwork with the heading 'Design the engine of the Future Competition', and don't forget to tell us your age and category selection! If your submission makes the shortlist, we'll be in touch with further details after the competition closes. The 'Design the engine of the Future competition' is split into three age groups: under 8s, 8-12, and 13-14 years.
