On October 28, 2021, Royal Dutch Shell plc announced that it has spoken with Dan Loeb's Third Point LLC and is willing to continue discussions, but it dismissed its plan to break the Company business into fossil fuel and renewable operations as unworkable. The Company CEO Jessica Uhl stated that Third Point's plan can sound really interesting from a financial perspective but in terms of real solutions, he thinks that breaks down. Third Point argued that a split would enable the Company to reduce its cost of capital and more aggressively invest in decarbonization; match its business units to shareholder constituencies different demands; and create more nimble business units. In addition, the Company announced plans to cuts emissions from its operations by 50% by 2030.
