Cybercrime is still emerging and developments take place extremely rapidly. Collaboration is the motto, also by sharing knowledge and experience in the annual European Cyber Security Perspectives. In the third edition of this report, the expertise of various parties including KPN comes together on current developments in the world of cyber security.

In the latest edition of The European Cyber Security Perspectives 2016, contributions are included from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), the National Police, Deloitte, Philips, Accenture, Zimperium and KPN. The report looks back at the developments in the past year with a summary of the annual Cyber Security Assessment in the Netherlands in 2015 by the NCSC. It also discusses various forms of cybercrime, including phishing.

In the article 'A phish a day keeps the doc away?' Mandy Mak and Michel Zoetebier of KPN share some insights in the process of a professional and somewhat amateurish group phishing criminals. Professional enough to pose a threat, but amateurish to leave enough traces. They describe the 'cat-and-mouse' game. Thanks to close cooperation between private and public sector, these criminals can be pursued.

In the 2016 report many other interesting stories can be found, such as a piece on quantum crypto, cyber cops and a follow-up article on honeypots. Wesley Post of KPN wrote an article last year and comes with some results. The contribution of Zuk Avraham, Founder, Chairman and CTO of Zimperium, the company that discovered the stagefright leak in 2015, is worth reading as well. In his contribution 'Wake-up call for the mobile ecosystem' Abraham looks at the discovery of stagefright and its implications for the mobile ecosystem.
