Broadband market share increases to 41%
The Dutch competition authority ("NMa") has approved KPN's
acquisition of four fiber service providers from
Reggeborgh. The intended acquisition was announced on 9
November 2011, together with the amendment of the
Reggefiber joint-venture agreement and the acquisitions of
Reggefiber's wholesale operator and fiber service
provider.
'The acquisition of the fiber service providers increases
our broadband market share to 41%, allows us to strengthen
our FttH presence and shows our continued commitment to
FttH. We see FttH as the long-term superior infrastructure,
while providing good operational results in the short to
medium-term, such as increasing broadband and TV market
shares and higher ARPU. Next to our FttH network, the
continued progress on the upgrades of our copper network is
equally essential as this will enable KPN to offer its full
range of products to its customers.'
(Eelco Blok, CEO KPN)
The acquisition of the fiber service providers forms an
important part of KPN's hybrid VDSL and FttH network
strategy. KPN will add ~120k FttH customers leading to a
~1.8% increase in broadband market share. Following
completion of the transaction KPN will have a FttH customer
base of more than 300k, significantly increasing FttH
penetration in KPN's fiber areas to ~29% *).
