COLOGNE (dpa-AFX) - The RTL Deutschland broadcasting group will be showing the legendary James Bond films again from 2025. It has secured the license for 25 official films from Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, the Cologne-based company told Deutsche Presse-Agentur. The 007 editions will be shown on the Group's free TV channels, including RTL and Vox.
This marks the return of the successful series about the agent James Bond to RTL after many years. Most recently, the Group had the rights to the Bond films from 2018 to 2022, i.e. for four consecutive years. After that, ProSiebenSat.1 received the license.
The market with TV rights
It is not unusual for rights to move back and forth in the market. For example, the TV rights to Constantin Film's theatrical productions also switched from ProSiebenSat.1 to RTL years ago. Cinema classics are an essential part of TV stations' programming.
RTL manager Andreas Fischer (Chief Operating Officer) said: "The timeless and unmistakable James Bond series is one of the most successful and popular film franchises of all and now has a new home on our stations' free TV."/rin/DP/he
