BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - The live broadcasts of the top matches in the 2nd Bundesliga will change TV stations. According to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, the RTL Group has secured the rights and will replace the sports channel Sport1, which was left empty-handed in the first week of the German Football League auction, from the coming season. The RTL Group and the DFL did not wish to comment on the matter.
Sky remains the home of the 2nd Bundesliga on pay-TV. The pay-TV broadcaster secured package F. This contains 275 live matches, which are played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and shown on pay-TV. The package also includes 98 conferences.
Further opportunities for the rights purchase
RTL and Sport1 have further opportunities to acquire rights. In the second week of the auction, the packages for free TV will be awarded within three days starting on Monday. This also includes package I with the summaries of the 1st league on Saturday afternoons, which have been broadcast on ARD's "Sportschau" for many years.
Last Monday, the DFL began auctioning off the TV rights for the Bundesliga. In the first week, the main focus was on the pay-TV matches, which make up by far the largest share of Bundesliga revenue and went to Sky and DAZN. The entire DFL offer consists of 15 TV packages for the 2025/26 to 2028/29 seasons, each of which will be awarded to the highest bidding broadcasters and media companies./mrs/DP/mis
