MUNICH (dpa-AFX) - "Tagesschau" remains the most-watched news program on German television. On average, each 8 p.m. edition of the program produced in Hamburg by NDR had around 9.6 million viewers in 2024, the ARD program directorate in Munich announced in an annual report.
At the end of 2023, ARD had reported around 9.5 million viewers for each main edition of "Tagesschau". Even then, it was far ahead of its competitors such as ZDF and RTL.
The broadcaster association emphasizes that the ARD media library was also the broadcaster media library with the highest reach in Germany in 2024: "Around 2.7 million people use the platform every day. That corresponds to more than 3 million streaming hours per day." Compared to the same period last year, this represents an increase of almost 20 percent in usage hours.
According to ARD, this year's documentary hits in the media library included programs such as "Beckenbauer" (2.1 million views), "Angela Merkel - Schicksalsjahre einer Kanzlerin" (2.2 million views) and the four-part documentary series "Wir Weltmeister - Abenteuer Fußball-WM 2014" (4.3 million views).
Fictional productions such as the mystery series "Oderbruch" (11.7 million views), the prison series "Testo" (8.2 million views) and the series "Die Zweiflers" (3.8 million views) about a Jewish family in Frankfurt also scored points in the media library./gth/DP/men
