RWE : Renewables offshore head appointed to EEEGR board

East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) today announced Alastair Gill, Team Lead Consents and Permits for Offshore Wind at RWE Renewables, as a Director on the EEEGR board. EEEGR is a membership organization for the energy industry in the South East of England and its directors assist in and oversee the strategy for the organization. There are nine elected directors and each year three new directors are appointed.

Simon Gray, CEO of EEEGR said: 'I am delighted to announce Alastair's appointment as Director to the EEEGR board at our 2020 AGM. Alastair is one of the pioneers of the offshore wind industry having worked in the sector for over 15 years, and brings a wealth of relevant experience including his previous role as Board Director at RenewableUK. We very much welcome him to the team.'

RWE Renewables has been active in the East coast of England for a number of years, with several operational offshore wind farms and a number of projects in development including the recently announced offshore wind extension projects Five Estuaries and North Falls.

Alastair Gill, said: 'I'm looking forward to contributing to the governance of EEEGR, and particularly their work in supporting the offshore wind supply chain in the East of England. I hope some of the knowledge I have gained, particularly around the Sector Deal, Skills for Energy and renewable clusters, will be invaluable in supporting the growth of the energy industry and the potential benefits it offers to this area.'

The United Kingdom plays a key role in RWE's strategy to grow its renewables business and to become carbon neutral by 2040. With nine offshore wind farms in the UK in operation, RWE has significant experience in the offshore market. The company's pro-rata installed capacity in offshore wind amounts in the UK to 1.4 GW. Furthermore, RWE is currently constructing the 857 MW offshore wind farm Triton Knoll (RWE share 59%) off the Lincolnshire coast and is developing the 1.4 GW offshore wind farm Sofia, 100% owned by RWE. RWE also has a strong footprint in onshore wind in the UK, with an installed pro-rata capacity of around 650 megawatts in operation.
