RWE Renewables has today launched a first phase of community consultation to introduce its proposals for a new onshore wind farm east of Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, and to seek local views.

As the largest investor in renewable energy in Wales, RWE Renewables currently operates four onshore and three offshore wind farms. The company has four offices across Wales and through its employees, supply chain and community funds, has been present in Welsh communities for over 15 years.

The new wind farm demonstrates RWE's continued commitment to expanding its portfolio of renewable energy projects. It is named Pen March Wind Farm after the area of land the proposal is sited on, and could potentially consist of up to 7 turbines, with an installed operational capacity of up to 30MW.

Jenny Cowley Renewables Developer at RWE Renewables said: 'We are at an early stage in developing the proposed Pen March Wind Farm and this is the first phase of our community consultation. I'd really encourage people to get in touch with their thoughts so that we can consider feedback as the project develops.'

In accordance with Welsh Government guidance, RWE has created a virtual exhibition room to ensure people can have an opportunity to view and comment on the proposal whilst staying at home.

Jenny said: 'As you will appreciate, the current situation makes engagement challenging and does not allow for traditional public exhibitions to be held face to face as we would like but we are just one click away.'

RWE has set up a range of dedicated communication channels to encourage feedback which include:

  • a virtual exhibition website: https://www.rwe.com/pen-march with information on the project and an online feedback form
  • online chat function Monday - Friday 9am-1pm throughout February
  • a dedicated email address penmarch@rwe.com and free phone number: 0800 197 8232

A second formal phase of community consultation is scheduled to be held later this year.
