Ryanair Holdings PLC is the latest airline to get a fine from Italy's competition authority for not refunding passengers for flights canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The London-listed airline was fined 4.2 million euros ($5.1 million) for not refunding passengers for flights canceled after June 3, 2020, the Italian watchdog said Monday.

Even after the travel restrictions introduced to tackle the spread of the pandemic had been lifted, the company continued to cancel many scheduled flights, saying that it was due to the health emergency, and gave customers vouchers instead of refunds, according to the authority.

For the same reason, the regulator has recently fined easyJet PLC EUR2.8 million and Volotea SA EUR1.4 million.

The companies' conduct was "seriously unfair," it said.

Ryanair didn't respond to a request for comment.
