National Intern Day: Safran contributes to shaping young talent of today for future aerospace jobs
July 28, 2022
Human resources

Safran companies across the United States offer internships and co-op educational programs, giving university students the opportunity to learn vital job skills, while providing Safran the opportunity to promote the Group's various divisions - all while building a pipeline of incoming talent.

Safran's summer intern program provides opportunities to learn during "Launch & Learn" workshops, behind-the-scenes tours of facilities and other events that foster networking and exchange.

Today's celebration of National Intern Day is an opportunity to learn about some of the interns working at Safran in the United States through the following series of questions and answers.

Aayush Iyengar, Intern - Engineering, Safran Aerosystems Services

  • What skills have you been able to develop during your internship?

Through the various projects I've worked at Safran, I would have to say my Excel skills and computer-aided design skills have improved the most. These two skills are used quite often, whether it be addressing or implementing changes for a certain product, or even designing the product itself. Without a doubt, these skills have improved immensely through my internship.

  • What advice can you share with other interns?

The most important thing, in my opinion, is the ability to always ask questions. You should never feel shy or scared to ask regardless of how trivial the question may seem. The people you are working with are extremely knowledgeable in the tasks they are completing, and have many insights that they are almost always willing to share. Being able to always ask questions allows you improve your own performance, as well as opening a means of conversation between others that you are working with.

Andrea Balderrama, Intern - Manufacturing, Safran Aerosystems Evacuation

  • What attracted you to Safran?

The opportunity to develop engineering skills and acquire work experience while contributing to the company's mission statement of making the air transport safer and friendlier. I enjoy learning from others and bringing value to the team with my work. After learning more about Safran, I realized that my values and interests match with those of the company, so I decided that it would be a great place to work - where my work was going to be appreciated. I'm very happy that I was given the chance to complete this internship.

  • What skills have you been able to develop during your internship?

Teamwork, time management, technical documentation, communication, problem-solving, innovation…

Oskar Nogal, Intern - IT, Safran Aerosystems Evacuation

  • What skills have you been able to develop during your internship?

Professional etiquette, communication skills, teamwork, software education, crucial thinking & problem-solving skills, management skills, networking, intuitiveness and determination.

  • What advice can you share with other interns?

Patience and perseverance is key, don't force it. Enjoy every minute of it; not everybody can say they've had such an opportunity.

Tamila Janabayeva, Intern - Creative and marketing, Safran Cabin

  • What attracted you to Safran?

What caught my attention was not only the important and innovative work that Safran creates, but also the international aspect of it. I am connected with a lot of people throughout the company, where everyone is open and willing to share their experiences and knowledge and always open for a conversation.

  • What advice can you share with other interns?

Be proactive, involved and open minded. This internship is a great opportunity to learn as much as you can from everyone around you. It is important to be curious and eager to learn and do your best work.

Colin McLagan, Intern - Central Engineering, Safran Landing Systems

  • What attracted you to Safran?

I was interested in Safran for their prominence in the aerospace industry, which would serve my aerospace degree well. The location is also 10 minutes from my residence, which made accepting the offer easy. Lastly, the company was very easy to work with and flexible with my start date as I returned home from school. All of these factors made receiving this internship the perfect opportunity for me.

  • What skills have you been able to develop during your internship?

I have learned valuable real world experience at Safran, which I have been unable to find in my college courses. I've been able to demonstrate problem solving skills that cause real world changes and have learned the complex systems at this plant that I could not experience anywhere else. I have learned to communicate better and understand the importance of a team. I have learned how to use Excel to create complex models that forecast the outcome of engineering decisions. I have learned a ton of important information that I can carry with me through college and into my career, thanks to the engineers and employees that have given me invaluable advice.

Carson Billy, Intern - Carbon Quality Engineering, Safran Landing Systems

  • What skills have you been able to develop during your internship?

I have been able to learn several new programs and data analysis tools along with progressing my knowledge of programs such as excel. One of the most import skills I have improved on here is my collaboration skills working on inter-departmental work and across multiple sites as well.

  • What advice can you share with other interns?

Be yourself; everyone is here to help you, even if you make a mistake.

Lexiana Ari, Intern - Safran Power Units, Aftermarket, Safran Power Units

  • What attracted you to Safran?

It sounded like an interesting company to work for because I had never heard of it before. I also spoke with the hiring manager on the telephone, and she was really nice and welcoming, so I felt like it might be a nice work environment.

  • What skills have you been able to develop during your internship?

Time management skills, organization skills and communication skills.

  • What advice can you share with other interns?

Ask questions if you are confused, ask for help if you need any, and never stop learning!

Alexandria Johnson, Intern - Engineering, Safran Seats

  • What attracted you to Safran?

I was initially drawn in by Safran's community presence and the work done as a socially responsible company. I became enamored however, when I discovered all of the innovative aviation components that make up Safran!

  • How would you describe your internship experience in one word?

Stimulating! I love that I have the space and encouragement to learn more about engineering and design, showcase the skills I've been honing academically, and get out in the workforce and network with some amazing individuals.

Minsa Anna Sam, Intern - Indirect Purchasing, Safran USA

  • What attracted you to Safran?

Safran's global presence and my fascination for aircraft.

  • What skills have you been able to develop during your internship?

Critical thinking, data analysis and negotiation abilities.

  • What advice can you share with other interns?

Ask, reach out. Be curious. Learn as much as possible.

Bradley Toth, Intern - Electrical Engineering, Safran Electrical & Power

  • What attracted you to Safran?

I thought Safran would require a significant amount of critical thinking and attention to detail due to the life critical systems we develop. This type of challenge has always appealed to me.

  • What skills have you been able to develop during your internship?

Safran has pushed me to develop skills on every front. I learned multiple "soft" skills like critical thinking, communication of ideas, or even how to ask better questions. I also learned technical skills in just about every area. I developed applications in five different programming languages, two of which were new to me. I learned about configuration management and helped develop new workflows for technical documents, then I also helped write multiple technical documents.

On top of all that I was able to work on some computer aided design (CAD) drawings. Overall, I think Safran has given me an exceptional foundation to develop into a great engineer.

Anaheed Mohmed, Intern - Human Resources, Safran Electronics & Defense Avionics

  • How did you hear about Safran?

The first time I heard about Safran was during my MBA studies; one of my classmate mentioned it many times during our Group Discussion. Then, when I was looking actively for jobs, I found about this internship on Indeed.

  • How would you describe your internship experience in one word? Positive!

I was able to apply some acquired knowledge to real work experiences, witnessing corporate day-to-day work duties; sharpening my communication, teamwork, and technology proficiency. More importantly, it is helping me validate my career desires by giving the chance to explore and interact with different departments and getting general understanding about their day-to-day operations. Above all, this internship offered the opportunity to learn from the very professional and supportive people around me.

Ryan Dalmas, Intern - Software and Requirements Area, Safran Passenger Innovations

  • What attracted you to Safran?

Everybody was happy and the interactions were positive; therefore, the people are what attracted me to Safran. My position depends on the people. I would rather work for half of the pay and work with good people than being paid handsomely and work with miserable people.

  • What skills have you been able to develop during your internship?

While working at Safran Passenger Innovations, I've learned seven to eight software languages, including tech language, and I've felt that I have had the opportunity to jump in right away and learn. When I came in, I instantly was given tasks. This internship also provided a unique environment to test and further develop my organization skills, patience, and communication.
