Contec has acquired a state-of-the-art worldwide ground infrastructure based on Safran Data Systems' LEGION and VISION antennas to support the S, X and Ka Frequency bands. The Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) spin-off company also plans to deploy a network of optical ground stations to support both its own satellites and the provision of services.

As part of this development, Safran Data Systems has been selected to supply Contec with an optical ground station. Safran Data Systems will deliver a turnkey Optical Ground Station (OGS), consisting of a 50-cm telescope, a mount offering optimal coverage, a complete Pointing, Acquisition and Tracking system and a rotating dome. It will also integrate the famous Cortex Lasercom modem, another Safran flagship product in optical communications, complemented by M&C software, making it a turnkey system.

With data rates ranging from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps and support for all CCSDS O3K standards, Contec is equipped with a true multi-mission tool for today and for the very long term.

As Jean-Marie Bétermier, Safran Electronics & Defense Space Senior VP and Safran Data Systems CEO reminded us: "Safran Data Systems has been a key player for several decades in ground solutions for satellite support. Within the Space Division, we also have unique expertise in optronics with Safran Electronics & Defense and in optics, with Safran Reosc. This OGS is the result of a close collaboration between all our teams, giving Safran a unique position in this market."

As part of our strategy to expand our business in this sector, Safran is targeting Low Earth Orbit satellite constellation operators as well as New Space* players with this Optical Ground Station.
