Saint Gobain : Three Carbon Fund winners

In the UK, the Invest Carbon fund (CAPEX projects) has awarded three retail chains (Jewson, Artex and Jewson Civils Frazer) £650,000 as part of the Carbon Fund launched by Saint-Gobain in Northern Europe to support the reduction of CO2 emissions from businesses on the road to carbon neutrality by 2050.

The three projects include leading distributor Artex in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, which has been awarded £300,000 to fund the installation of a biomass heating system that will reduce CO2 emissions by 150 metric tons per year.

Building products distributor Jewson received £250,000 for its Wishaw, North Lanarkshire outlet. The funds will be used to install high performance insulation, LED lighting, solar photovoltaic panels and an air source heat pump to reduce CO2 emissions by 19 metric tons per year.

Jewson Civils Frazer, a distributor of civil engineering products, has received over £100,000 in funding to replace existing electric heating systems with air source heat pumps at four of its UK sites, with the aim of saving 56 metric tons of CO2 per year.

In addition to these investments, Saint-Gobain employees in the UK and Ireland submitted their ideas for reducing non-industrial CO2 emissions, ranging from small actions to larger projects. These proposals were shortlisted by a group of employees and submitted to the Carbon Fund where a committee selected the most impactful winning projects.

Finally, funding will increase over the coming years, as for every metric ton of carbon saved by the businesses, an additional €50 will be added to the Fund.
