Salesforce.com Inc. reported higher sales but swung to a loss in its fourth quarter.

The business software provider posted a loss of $28 million, or per-share loss of 3 cents, compared with net income of $267 million, or per-share earnings of 28 cents. Adjusted per-share earnings were 84 cents. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $1.

Revenue rose to $7.33 billion for the three months ended Jan. 31 from $5.82 billion for the year-ago period. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $7.24 billion.

Sales of its subscription and support segment increased to $6.83 billion in the fourth quarter from $5.48 billion in the fourth quarter of 2020, while sales of its professional services increased to $498 million from $341 million. Both were above analysts expectations.

"I'm confident in the momentum of the business as we build an even stronger company in FY23 and beyond," Financial Chief Amy Weaver said in prepared remarks.
