This heat treatment of the 'First Plate' marks a decisive milestone for the large-scale plant. The Ilsenburger Grobblech Management had opportunity to admire the high quality of the new plates with their mirror-smooth surface on the spot.

The 'New Heat Treatment Line' is the largest single investment in the history of Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH (ILG). It is the main project component through which Salzgitter AG concentrates the heavy plate activities in Ilsenburg and positions them securely for future requirements. It comprises of two roller-hearth furnaces, a MultiFlex-Quench®, a levelling machine, a blasting facility, a preservation line and a water treatment system. Implementation has been scheduled for the pring of 2021.

More than 200,000 tons of heavy plate can be annealed and subsequently processed further in the new plant that has been designed for plates with thicknesses between 5 and 175 millimeters and with widths of 600 and 3,500 millimeters. In lengths of between 4 and 24 meters, the plate has a maximum weight of 28 tons.
