Samsung Electronics Co. said Tuesday that its latest foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold2, will become available Sept. 18 in some countries including the United States and South Korea with a starting price of $1,999.

The main screen of the 5G-ready smartphone unfolds to a size of 7.6 inches. It also has a 6.2-inch screen on its back that can be used to check emails or stream video while the device remains folded.

The Galaxy Z Fold2, which is slightly larger than Samsung's first foldable models released last year, can be used as a tablet device when unfolded.

Its design allows users to fold and place the device at a right angle on a tabletop for ease of viewing video.
