International stocks trading in New York closed mixed on Thursday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 0.5% to 158.48. The European index rose below 0.1% to 145.07. The Asian index dropped 1.3% to 201.75. The Latin American index gained 0.5% to 192.43, while the emerging markets index sank 1.1% to 335.72.

Galapagos NV was among those whose ADRs traded actively.

The Belgian pharmaceutical research company's ADRs rose 22.5% after Citi upgraded Galapagos to buy from neutral and raised its price target to EUR61 from EUR51.

ADRs of SAP SE fell 7.5% after the company announced its fourth-quarter results and said it's acquiring a majority stake in working capital management company Taulia.
