Advanced materials from SABIC's Specialties portfolio have claimed two places on a list of the top 100 revolutionary technologies developed in the last year.

The materials, aimed at advancing the 5G and electrical mobility markets, were both confirmed in the Mechanical / Materials category of the prestigious R&D 100 Awards via a virtual ceremony broadcast from Cleveland, Ohio.

SABIC's innovations beat stiff competition from 17 countries and impressed an international judging panel, comprising nearly 40 well-respected industry professionals.

Dr Ernesto Occhiello, Executive Vice President of Specialties at SABIC, said:

"Our value proposition stems from providing unique offerings to our customers and reliably fulfilling their ever evolving needs. Winning two of the R&D 100 awards demonstrates that SABIC is at the cutting edge of delivering innovation. We are pleased to earn recognition and we are committed to leverage at best these examples of our ingenuity, as our technology portfolio provides for current aspects of modern life, but more importantly it enables the future - from universal connectivity to electrification and carbon neutrality".

"The first award winning solution from SABIC, ELCRES™ HTV150 capacitor film, which can operate up to 150c, supports the transition from conventional semiconductors based on silicon (Si) to next-generation, wide-band-gap technologies based on silicon carbide (SiC), improving the efficiency of inverter modules used in Electric Vehicles. The higher performance in acceleration, charging speed and range promised by operating these next generation inverters at higher temperatures is important to achieve society's goal of full EV adoption"

SABIC's second winning material is the High-Purity SD1100P Specialty Dianhydride. Designed to Improve metal adhesion in printed circuit boards (PCBs) not only increases their reliability but also permits the use of thinner, smoother copper, which decreases part size and increases signal transmission performance.

This high-purity monomer can help customers improve PI film properties to meet demands for higher speed and capacity in 5G networking infrastructure and endpoint devices including 5G flexible printed circuit boards (PCBs), colorless displays and other flexible electronics applications.

Now in its 59th edition, the R&D 100 Awards recognizes exceptional new products or process technologies that were developed and introduced into the marketplace during the previous year.
