05 Jan 2014

Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, Minister of Commerce and Industry, visited SAUDI KAYAN on January 2. The Minister was accompanied by Dr. Mosleh Al-Otaibi, CEO, Royal Commission for Jubail, and a delegation of senior officials from the ministry and the Royal Commission. The minister and his delegation were received by Mazyad Al-Khalidi, SAUDI KAYAN President, and the company's senior management.

Al-Khalidi welcomed Dr. Al-Rabiah and his accompanying delegation, and briefed them on SAUDI KAYAN's business and projects. This was followed by a presentation on the company's products and various applications. The senior delegation then toured SAUDI KAYAN's plants, where they got acquainted with the sophisticated equipment and electronic systems used in the control rooms.

The Minister expressed his pride in SAUDI KAYAN's big plants and commended the progress the company made towards running these plants efficiently. He also praised the role of SAUDI KAYAN management in attracting national cadres and achieving a high percentage of Saudization. In addition, the Minister pointed out that SAUDI KAYAN - with its basic products portfolio - adds value to the Kingdom's economy and is considered a basis for many downstream industries that use these products to manufacture finished end-user products. He further wished the company and its employees every success.

The minister's visit to Jubail also included a tour of the Saudi Butanol Company (SaBuCo), which will be building the world's largest butanol plant in the world to be located in Jubail. This new joint venture results from strong cooperation among three leading Saudi petrochemical companies - Sadara Chemical Company (Sadara), Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Company (SAUDI KAYAN) and Saudi Acrylic Acid Company (SAAC). The first of its kind in the Middle East, the project will support and contribute towards development of the paints industry in the Kingdom. The design capacity of the plant, which is scheduled to go on-stream in 2015, is 330,000 metric tons per annum of n-butanol and 11,000 metric tons per annum of iso-butanol.

At the end of the visit, the senior delegation thanked SAUDI KAYAN for the warm reception and hospitality.
