The autumn peak in costs for tire fitting services practically mirrored the peak in 2019, but it was adjusted for the overall decline in purchasing activity, Sber analysts say. In the spring of 2020, the demand for switching to season tires was severely knocked down in Russia because of the lockdown.

The spring 2020 restrictions forced Sberbank customers to use tire fitting services less as compared to a year earlier. In April, analysts registered no peaks in demand for this service, and even with additional growth in May, the total number of people making transactions in the respective categories this year was almost one-quarter lower than expected. Most likely, some of the clients chose not to spend money on these services, but to change tires themselves or use off-the-books garage services, paying for them in cash.

The autumn surge in demand for the services of tire shops this year was close to that last year. The number of clients has increased by 30% since September (as was in 2019). Nevertheless, the demand has not seen a major increase year-to-date, which is caused by a drop in consumer activity of the population.

AOV dynamics in 2020 have barely changed y-o-y. Compared to the summer figures, AOVs jumped by 25% during the peak weeks in autumn to reach RUB3,438 from RUB2,736 in 2020.

The biggest AOVs during the autumn surge in demand have been spotted in Moscow (RUB5,228), Oryol Region (RUB5,135), Murmansk Region (RUB4,836), Kursk Region (RUB4,434), and Tambov Region (RUB4,343).
