Strong Scatec Delegation at Africa Energy Forum 2022 in Brussels

Renewables can and will drive Africa's energy transformation - and the downstream benefits of energy production and consumption are exponential. Our ability to deliver renewable energy solutions across various markets and technologies sets a strong foundation in accessing opportunities over time.

Participating at the 24th Africa Energy Forum (AEF), our Scatec delegation will connect again with industry players and partners through the lens of developing the continent's energy landscape. The in-person event has built a reputation of being a meaningful gathering of decision-makers in African energy - to form partnerships, identify opportunities, and align the industry for the future.

Scatec's delegation is showcasing the company's multi-technology offerings, solving energy needs across the continent.

As a focus of our participation at AEF, our delegation will share and celebrate the significant development impacts solar, wind, and hydropower plants have had on the global renewable energy landscape.

South Africa

General Manager of Sub-Saharan Africa, Jan Fourie, shares the stage with key stakeholders in South Africa's REIPPP Programme in the panel discussion South Africa's Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme - Unfolding for the Future (23 June 2022, 11h00 - 12h30 UTC +1).

Celebrated as a unique model in procurement of renewable energy and socioeconomic development, REIPPPP has shaped Africa's energy economy significantly.

Alongside leadership of the IPP Office, The National Energy Regulator of South Africa, and Financial Institutions, panellists will explore the history, successes, and learnings of the nation's renewable energy procurement mechanism. As the owner and operator of the nation's first utility scale solar PV facility, Scatec has deep expertise and inputs as the future of the programme is shaped and designed to solve domestic energy access and availability requirements of the continent.

The company's ability to deliver a full suite of renewable energy solutions, with a strong track record and presence on the continent, lays a strong platform for accessing opportunities in Africa's energy future.

Green hydrogen

During this forum, we will also demonstrate our ambitions and ability to deliver on the megatrend that is green hydrogen.

In order to meet global net zero goals, energy and fuel sources will need to be renewable and sustainable. Scatec has a major role to play in replacing existing power production based on conventional energy and decarbonise hard-to-abate industries.

At AEF, General Manager of MENAWA, Abdelaziz Yatribi, participates in Building Africa as a Green Hydrogen Powerhouse (23 June 2022, 11h00 - 12h30 UTC +1). Focus will be placed on the future of Green Hydrogen in Africa, industry readiness, development effects, and the export hub potential of the continent.

"We see a megatrend unfolding within Power-to-X and are building a position in this market with our renewable expertise, business model, and market presence. Africa is ready, and Scatec is ready to deliver on its ambitions on the continent." - Abdelaziz Yatribi.

Hydropower

Hydropower is a critical contributor to the green energy transition. Energy generated from hydro facilities can be stored and dispatched to match demand - as well as provide system stability. Combined with wind and solar, hydropower offers unmatched flexibility in renewable power production. Scatec is well positioned on the continent, with a strong pipeline and track record delivering renewable energy solutions.

Release by Scatec

Designed to overcome financial and technical barriers associated with adopting solar energy, Release is a flexible leasing agreement of pre-assembled and containerised solar PV and battery equipment to deliver a low cost, clean, and reliable power solution. Release offers customers their own solar plant without the need for large investments or long-term contractual commitments.

In emerging economies on the continent - the need for renewables is paramount. For it to be deployed rapidly, in needs to be simple and flexible. Focusing on medium and large energy consumers in emerging markets, we use our experience, competence, and global presence to make reliable solar power available to a larger audience.

CEO of Release by Scatec, Hans Olav Kvalvaag, shares the stage with ministry and development finance institutions in Desert to Power; Grid Connected Solar Generation and the Sahel G5 DtP Financing Facility (23 June 2022, 11h00 - 12h30 UTC +1). This panel discussion is centred around harnessing the solar energy potential of the G5 Sahel nations (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger) - and what renewable energy investment will mean for accelerated socioeconomic development of the region. With a strong footprint in North Africa, Scatec's voice and experience will add to the spotlight and realisation of the African Development Bank's (AfDB) flagship Desert to Power Initiative (DtP).

Join us at the in-person event, at our noted panel discussions and stand #320. Live streams are made available to all registered delegates.

See you in Brussels, as we continue to Improve our Future!
