Scatec : committed The Science Based Target Initiative

At Scatec we recognise that climate change is the defining global challenge of our time and that we all need to do our part to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Whilst our renewable power plants are essential to reducing emissions of these gases in the power sector by replacing fossil fuels, the construction and maintenance of the facilities, as well as sourcing of components, also emits greenhouse gases.

In June 2021, Scatec committed to The Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). The SBTi is a joint initiative by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), aiming to accelerate corporate climate action. The commitment requires Scatec to publish a climate target in line with the Paris Agreement for all direct emissions (scope 1) and indirect emissions (scope 2 and 3) within a time period of two years.

Earlier this year, Scatec published a climate target for scope 1 and 2 in line with the 1.5°C scenario to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50% by 2030 and to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. We are also developing a target for scope 3 to be published by end of 2021.

As part of our SBTi efforts we are also developing a target to cut our other indirect emissions related to supply of solar panels and balance of systems, and actively engaging with our suppliers to reduce their footprint. We are currently mapping our direct emission sources to identify emission 'hot-spots' and low and zero carbon operational and technological opportunities.
