Scientex Berhad Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended 31 January 2018

Scientex Berhad reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended 31 January 2018. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of MYR 634,752,000 against MYR 586,248,000 a year ago. Operating profit was MYR 84,928,000 against MYR 82,560,000 a year ago. Profit before tax was MYR 85,377,000 against MYR 81,832,000 a year ago. Profit attributable to owners of the company was MYR 67,981,000 against MYR 65,192,000 a year ago. Earnings per share attributable to owners of the company was 14.05 sen against 14.09 sen a year ago.
For the six months, the company reported revenue of MYR 1,293,434,000 against MYR 1,120,932,000 a year ago. Operating profit was MYR 178,166,000 against MYR 151,394,000 a year ago. The increase was mainly due to better sales performance achieved from both the manufacturing and property segments. Profit before tax was MYR 177,943,000 against MYR 148,245,000 a year ago. Profit attributable to owners of the company was MYR 140,383,000 against MYR 117,249,000 a year ago. Earnings per share attributable to owners of the company was 29.02 sen against 25.41 sen a year ago. Net cash from operating activities was MYR 230,106,000 against MYR 102,858,000 a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment was MYR 49,938,000 against MYR 52,545,000 a year ago. Purchase of land held for development was MYR 201,235,000 against MYR 67,635,000 a year ago.
Scientex Berhad is a manufacturer in flexible plastic packaging and a developer of affordable homes in Malaysia. The Company's segments include Packaging and Property development. The Packaging segment is engaged in the business of manufacturing, selling, and marketing of various flexible plastic packaging products, which can be categorized into industrial and consumer-based packaging products. The Property development segment is engaged in the business of constructing and developing affordable housing in Peninsular Malaysia. Its industrial packaging product range includes stretch film, PP strapping band, stretch & shrink hood, shrink film, agricultural film and PE flex tanks tubing. Its consumer packaging product range includes PE lamination base film, metallized film, general film, printed film (roll form), barrier film, BOPP film, CPP film and Wicket Bags. Its property arm has township development projects in Pasir Gudang, Kulai, Skudai, Senai, Ayer Keroh and Pulai, among others.
