Sempra Energy posted higher sales and profit in the latest quarter and said it hopes to have net-zero emissions by 2050.

The energy-infrastructure company on Friday posted net income attributable to common shares of $604 million, compared with $414 million in the year-ago period. Earnings were $1.90 a share, compared with $1.43 a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings were $2.16 a share. Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected adjusted earnings of $2 a share.

Revenue rose to $3.84 billion, compared with $3.17 billion a year earlier. Analysts surveyed by FactSet were expecting $3.55 billion.

The company also said it aims to have net-zero emissions by 2050.

"The energy needs of customers are changing," Chairman and Chief Executive Jeffrey Martin said.
