The plight of about 100 residents of the Laksamana People's Housing Project (PPR) in Jalan Peel, Pudu, here, who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, has caught the attention of Serba Dinamik Group Berhad (SD).

The residents today received essential items assistance under the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, carried out by SD's Care Team in collaboration with Amal Tharathai, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

SD Group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ir Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah said the CSR was aimed at helping those in need, especially the urban poor during these difficult times.

'The residents received contributions in the form of essential supplies such as rice, sugar, milk, eggs, cooking oil and canned foods,' he said in a statement here, today.

Meanwhile, Mohd Karim said the pandemic that started as a health scare then escalated into a socioeconomic and humanitarian crisis when lockdown affected livelihoods, jobs, and income has brought poverty and hardships under the spotlight.

Realising the gravity of the situation, Mohd Karim said SD had established the Serba Dinamik Care Team last year, to help people who have been affected by the pandemic.

'In announcing the Prihatin Rakyat (Caring for People) package on March 27 last year, the Prime Minister emphasised that 'no one would be left behind' and we felt as Malaysians, we too should step up and help the government to ensure the truly needy ones are not left behind,' he said.
