Serco wins Excellence in Healthcare Facility Management Award

Serco has been recognised for its facility management services at Fiona Stanley Hospital, taking out the Facility Management Association's Excellence in Healthcare award for 2020 at a virtual national awards ceremony on Thursday.

Serco works in partnership with clinicians at the flagship public hospital in Perth to support and continually enhance the experience of patients through non clinical services.

Serco Asia Pacific CEO Peter Welling said as one of the largest facilities management providers in the world, Serco prides itself on its capability and more than 50 years' proven experience in the industry.

"I have watched our team in Western Australia achieve ground-breaking innovation and integration with the services they have designed and delivered at Fiona Stanley Hospital since its commissioning. This award demonstrates that exceptional work, all to benefit the health of the community in Western Australia," Mr Welling said.

Over the last 12-months Serco's services have played a significant role in the Hospital's COVID response and readiness preparations.

These include a new IT solution to improve communication and care of COVID patients; Telehealth project; introduction of a UVD autonomous disinfection robot, major engineering works to create additional negative pressure rooms and the establishment of Fiona Stanley Hospital's onsite COVID Clinic.

A new menu for patients, which Serco's catering team developed in partnership with dieticians, has also been rolled out and the team were awarded Best Project at the Institute of Hospitality in Healthcare awards for the innovative new menu last month.

The "My choice" menu offers an enhanced patient experience, with 12 main meal choices per meal time and a modern approach with more of a restaurant feel. It has been allergy-mapped to more than 150 known allergies, not just the common ten.

Serco Fiona Stanley Hospital Contract Director Helen Robinson said it was an honour to win the award in 2020.

We proactively identify opportunities for cost-effective innovation that will improve patient experience and health care, enhance safety and quality, contribute to sustainability and increase staff collaboration," Ms Robinson said.

In March this year, the Western Australian Government announced an extension of Serco's contract at the hospital to 2027.
