We may be on the cusp of National Hamburger Day (it's Friday, in case you forgot), but at global data collection network Premise, they've been all about that famous burger side — French fries.

The company told QSRweb it recently paid 100 Americans to order and taste medium fries at fast food chains, including Arby's, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Five Guys, Hardee's, In-N-Out, McDonald's, Popeyes, Shake Shack and Wendy's. The testers then had to report back on their taste, price, texture and temperature to rank them each for overall satisfaction.

According to Premise's report on the results, the group ultimately dubbed — drumroll please — Chick-fil-A's fries the best. The chicken-centric QSR's version was then followed in preference by those at Arby's and the fast casual restaurant chain, Shake Shack in the third spot.

Premise also reported the Chick-fil-A No. 1 fries were not only chosen best overall, but ended up being the least expensive of the bunch at $1.99 for the medium size.

The company also asked the testers for the qualities they look for in a tasty French fry and found these results:

  • Taste was tops with 60%.
  • Temperature was the most critical for 21%.
  • Texture reigned supreme with 16%.
  • Price was tops for 2%.
  • 1% cited other factors.
